Plant Design CO-OP (Engineering)



This position receives technical guidance and administrative direction from the Chief Plant Designer or designee. This role is to be filled by a current student enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program. This student will work closely with the Plant Design Department while supporting their work. Tasks are to be completed under close supervision and guidance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Prepare drawings and sketches as directed using red-line markups.
  2. Prepare material take-offs and compiles material summary sheets.
  3. Gather field information with direct supervision.
  4. Travel to the work site will be required. Field work will require waling, climbing. And working in adverse weather conditions.
  5. Support plant design staff in general office needs, including; spreadsheets, filing, copying, ect.

  • Collects data, establishes facts, and derives valid conclusions.
  • Organizes data in tabular or diagrammatic forms.
  • Able to deal with several abstract and defined variables simultaneously when solving practical problems and optimizing designs.
  • Correctly interprets technical instructions.
  • Capable of visualizing complex objects and spaces in three dimensions to solve design problems.
  • Breaks down complex tasks into discrete components.
  • Anticipates needs and logically prioritizes and sequences activities to achieve desired results.
  • Language – Able to communicate effectively in a team environment.
  • Writes correspondence, technical instructions and status reports.
  • Listens and correctly interprets verbal direction.
  • Speaks with clear voice using good diction and grammar.
  • Reads and comprehends newspapers, technical articles, software application manuals and safety manuals.
  • Able to discuss tangible and abstract issues with small groups.
  • Uses good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively.
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Technology – Computer literate and applies technology to solve problems and complete tasks. 
  • Experienced with word processing and spreadsheet applications.

WORK REQUIREMENTS:
Satisfactory performance of this position will require:

  • A normal work week includes 40 or more hours depending on project needs, inclusive of C&I Core Business Hours.
  • Additional weekend work and extended workday hours may be required to meet project commitments.
  • Travel to and from job site that could exceed the normal work day.
  • Occasionally working in an operating industrial plant including extended on-site construction and start-up support.
  • Must comply with drug-free workplace requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and pass any background checks.
  • Performs work in a safe manner in accordance with C&I and client requirements.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Job qualifications are generally obtained from the following:

Must currently be enrolled in an ABET accredited Mechanical Engineering Program.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
 

Valid Driver's License is required.
