Job Description

This position is within the KPFF Planning Team, which is a specialized group of planners within KPFF that focuses on waterborne transportation feasibility planning and implementation, capital and operations management projects for ferries as well as entitlement support for KPFF. Example projects include: WSF Long Range Plan , PSRC Passenger-Only Ferry Study .

Working in a small team environment under a Senior Project Management team, with support of the larger KPFF community, this role supports entitlement and permitting efforts for waterfront, civil, transportation, and bridge projects through land use and transportation planning, research, project coordination and controls. Examples include early entitlement permitting such as planned unit developments and shoreline permits as well as construction permits.

Job Responsibilities

  • Project Contributions
    • Land use and transportation planning research
    • Data management including spreadsheet organization and maintenance
    • Drafting content for report and memo documents and associated quality control review
    • Conduct spatial analysis and mapping using GIS
    • Grant writing assistance
    • Coordinate Deliverables with engineers, subconsultants, and administrative team
    • Serve as point-of-contact when project managers are unavailable
    • Manage project files and MTCG project library
    • Schedule project meetings, prepare meeting agendas, record meeting minutes, and maintain action item lists
    • Coordinate archival of project files and drawings with Records Manager
  • Permitting Support
    • Conduct research on code requirements for properties and projects
    • Identify and coordinate land use and regulatory processes with various disciplines for various projects
    • Interface with agencies to confirm their processes and requirements
    • Coordinate with design team to obtain information to support permits and approvals
    • Support preparation and submittal of land use and permit applications
    • Outline and update project schedules with the project manager
  • Project Management Support
    • Communication with clients, subconsultants and internal team members
    • Contract administration including setting up spreadsheets, scoping materials
    • Budget tracking and management for review by project manager
    • Review subconsultant invoices
    • Review/prepare project invoices and progress reports
    • Prepare billing forecasts
  • Marketing
    • Assist in preparing fee proposals including proposal documentation and formatting
    • Create and maintain marketing materials
    • Potential client and project opportunity research

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in planning, geography, GIS, or similar discipline
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Advanced Word and Excel, Project, PowerPoint
  • Ability to work effectively remotely via Teams and Zoom and in an office setting
  • Ability to travel to meetings within the greater Seattle area
  • Efficient time management and ability to work independently
  • Positive, self-motivated/adaptable, solution oriented and enjoys a challenge
  • Strong verbal and people skills
  • Excellent writer with ability to communicate planning process and conclusions into written summary reports with clarity.
  • Dependable and professional
  • Works well with others-a team player, who can have fun!

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in Bluebeam, In-design, Adobe, Smartsheet
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping (ArcGIS)
  • Data management and document review experience
  • 2 + years experience in related field

Additional Information

Physical Demands:

  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasionally visiting project locations and performing field inspections which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.
  • Traveling to project sites or client meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Compensation:

The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected pay for a qualified candidate is $30.00 - $40.00 hourly.
