Sr Business Development Manager (Information Technology)



Position Title: Senior Business Development Manager (P5)

Role

As Senior Business Development Manager you will explore business strategies to optimize the use of the company's existing assets as well as entry into adjacent businesses.  Additionally, react to and pursue specific partnership opportunities - develop relationships, craft business models, and participate in detailed negotiations in spaces that are often new to the company.

As an initial assignment:

  • Lead the private networking and indoor/outdoor neutral host technology initiatives for the business development team. Identify potential low risk entry points into the space. Outline a comprehensive strategy and present recommendations and alternative paths of pursuit to CD&S management and key stakeholders throughout the organization. Lead cross-functional efforts to explore new initiatives and create initial entry into new markets.
  • Manage relationships with key prospects, clients, and partners for Crown Castle's private networking and indoor and outdoor neutral-host offerings.
  • Be a quick study and internal educator on emerging sectors of interest (e.g. WiFi OEM's, private LTE vendors, radio evolution, architectures, competitive plays, early business models).

Responsibilities

  • Build the big picture and vision for how Crown Castle will participate in “new” spaces and communicate that vision internally and externally.
  • Create the financial frameworks for new technology initiatives – including the minimum investment model and first viable
  • Partner with the Product team within Corporate Development & Strategy to link the technical possible to the commercially viable.
  • Work closely with sales where partners/customers and new use cases intersect with existing partnerships.
  • Develop business relationships across a wide range of players/industries - telecom, cloud, infrastructure, tech, media, real estate, transportation, and more.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and coordinate appropriate internal resources to formulate precedent-setting deal parameters and associated terms. Engage partners to establish mutual agreement on related deal terms and close deals.
  • Drive deals relating to these key technology initiatives to execution, ensuring all parties are honoring the spirit of agreements and that results are being achieved. Identify business initiatives that should be refined or even killed.
  • Promote and present new technology initiatives to senior executives.

 

Education/Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, or related field required; MBA or advanced degree in a related technology strongly preferred.

Experience/Minimum Requirements

  • Ten+ (10+) years of relevant work experience, preferably in the Telco or Tech industries
  • Five+ (5+) years of experience with technology incubation, ecosystem development, and go-to-market execution
  • Three+ (3+) years of experience in a leading consulting firm, top tier investment bank, or corporate strategy/corporate development team of a large company is highly desired
  • Strong foundation in building business models and investment models
  • Proven experience developing new business opportunities

Expectations

  • Background in wireless/telecom industry and or tech
  • Superior analytical, relationship building, strategic thinking, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and think on the fly
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including experience influencing key managers and senior executives
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including significant experience presenting to C-suite and board audiences
  • Ability to quickly frame business problems, identify the required data, approach, timing, and team to make actionable recommendations
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to pull out the “so-whats” based on data-driven insights and hypothesis testing
  • Strong financial acumen

Organizational Relationship

Reports to:  Vice President, Business Development

Working Conditions: This role falls into our hybrid work model working in your assigned office approximately 60% of the time (3 days per week) and where you do your best work 40% (2 days per week).  There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that could require travel.
