Purpose
~ Assists in ensuring corporate compliance with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regulatory matters concerning Hyundai motor vehicles safety-related defect product investigations. Gathers and evaluates data occurring in the field related to vehicle safety or scenarios involving potential FMVSS noncompliance. Ensures compliance with federal requirements related to defect/noncompliance reporting and TREAD Early Warning Reporting.
Major Responsibilities
~ Assists in ensuring corporate compliance with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regulatory matters concerning Hyundai motor vehicles safety-related defect product investigation:
~ Coordinate with other HMA divisions to respond to government regulatory inquiries.
~ Identify opportunities to manage warranty litigation by evaluating and analyzing vehicles, components and conditions, dealers, and plaintiff law firms that are involved in warranty litigation.
~ Prepare reports as required by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
~ Review engineering drawings, specifications, details, and other technical documents as required.
~ Prepare for summary of product analyses for reporting to external partners and upper management.
~ Maintain regular contact with NASO engineers and technical groups regarding current field issues and activities.
~ Provide technical support and assistance for special projects involving the Parts, Service, Import and Distribution, Legal and Marketing departments on an ongoing basis. Such activities involve interpretation of federal and state requirements, support of active product litigation through discovery of information, and ensuring the technical accuracy of printed and electronic marketing materials.
~ Ensures compliance with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) defect/noncompliance reporting and TREAD Act Early Warning Reporting requirements:
~ Assist in reporting of new product safety/noncompliance recalls and manage deadlines for submission of required related information to government agencies, including owner notification literature, campaign completion data, and other technical information related to current product safety-related campaigns.
~ Generate TREAD Act Early Warning Reporting information for submittal to NHTSA. Coordinate reporting requirements with Service, Legal, HISNA, and HMC. Analyze Sales and Warranty Data, Consumer Affairs Contacts, Parts Sales Data, Field Reports, Accident and Injury Data, including relevant worldwide data-gathering by HMC. Review Technical Service Bulletins, Tech Net Times, DCS messages, and other technical publications prior to publication for technical accuracy and clear and proper content.
Authority
~ Position requires a high level of technical expertise and independent judgment to assist NASO in evaluation of product investigations and reporting to government agencies.
~ Position requires a proficient level of regulatory expertise to assist NASO engineers in interpretation of regulatory requirements and evaluation of current product safety-related investigations.
~ Position requires a high level of managing communication with related stakeholders for gathering of information to be evaluated or analyzed for NHTSA reporting.
~ Position requires a proficient ability to gather and analyze field related technical information to determine product quality trends and summarize analyses for external audiences.
~ Position requires developing and managing procedures to provide required reports to NHTSA on an ongoing, regular basis to ensure compliance with federal safety recall and TREAD reporting requirements.
Education
~ Must have a high school diploma.
~ Bachelor's degree preferred.
~ Master's degree a plus.
Related Experience
~ Eight or more years of experience, of which there are at least five years of directly related experience in technical areas of the automobile business, with experience preferably in government regulatory matters.
~ Two to three years of supervisory experience desired.
Skill/Knowledge
~ Comprehensive automotive technical knowledge – body, chassis, powertrain, brakes, electrical, safety systems.
~ Ability to accurately analyze technical data.
~ Ability to communicate concerning technical issues and concepts with persons from HMA and HMC quality, engineering, testing and service and with persons at law firms.
~ Ability to create reports for submittal to government agencies.
~ Ability to develop presentations regarding technical conditions.
~ Ability to gather information from government, industry and other electronic resources.
~ Ability to prepare and submit TREAD Act Early Warning Reports to NHTSA.
~ Ability to analyze data and create charts and graphs and PowerPoint presentations regarding technical conditions.
~ Ability to provide deposition and trial testimony as a technical expert witness.
~ Ability to effectively manage short-term deadlines and/or long-term project milestones associated with external requests for information.
~ Ability to monitor and assess status of active projects and deadlines and effectively communicate to management.
~ Aptitude to work well with and communicate clearly with members of HMA and HMC quality, engineering, testing, and service and with persons at law firms.
~ Aptitude to represent the company in a professional manner to government agencies, other companies.
