Temporary Seasonal Reader (Finance)
This position posting requires a cover letter and a resume. Please attach both required documents to the application.
Position Summary
Rice University , a highly selective research institution in the heart of Houston, Texas, is seeking temporary seasonal readers for the 2021-2022 undergraduate admission application reading season. S easonal readers are expected to commit 10-20 hours per week (including training) in reviewing 1500-2000 freshmen applications from late October through early March. The application evaluation process is a committee-based approach, taking into consideration each applicant's academic credentials, contributions to school and community, and ability to contribute to and benefit from Rice's diverse educational atmosphere. In keeping with this holistic philosophy, the readers will be responsible for reviewing high school transcripts, standardized test scores, personal essays, recommendation letters, and other application documents.
Seasonal readers will be paired up with other members of the admission team and review files utilizing the committee-based evaluation (CBE) approach. Due to the nature of CBE, readers must maintain steady and frequent contact with the admission office and be receptive to guidance and feedback from team members. Seasonal readers must be able to pair up with admissions team members between late October and early March during the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and/or 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and some Saturdays. The temporary seasonal readers must attend reader training and be ready to begin reviewing files by October 25. Reader training and application review will be conducted virtually.
Candidates must have a computer and access to a reliable, high-speed internet connection in a private, secure location. We cannot consider candidates who currently work closely with high school students or college admission professionals including high school guidance counselors and independent consultants. This position is not eligible for Rice benefits. Knowledge of Rice University and/or experience in a higher education environment is desired.
