Entry-Level Civil Engineer (Engineering)

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems' Wichita, KS office seeks an Entry Civil Engineer to join our growing office as an entry level engineer.  This person will be a member of our roadway design team and will assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking/signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, cost estimates, roadway lighting, and other related tasks. The individual may also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects.  The engineer will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment.  
 

  • Analyzes information and data to perform routine design tasks.
  • Receives instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.
  • Research design options and document findings.
  • Responsible as a member of the design them for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  • Researches code requirements.
  • Prepares environmental impact and other administrative reports required for project permits.
  • Keeps Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals.
  • May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.

 


Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited program
  • Ability to obtain Fundamentals of Engineering registration within 1 year
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we'd prefer for you to bring to our firm:

  • May 2022 or May 2023 graduate
  • EIT
  • Previous internship experience in roadway, bridge, drainage, construction inspection and/or lighting 
  • Microstation and/or Geopak working knowledge
  • No relocation or stipend assistance

Work Environment:
 

  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. Airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc.).
