What you will do:
Johnson Controls is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to join our Special Hazards Fire Suppression New Product Introduction (NPI) team at our R&D facility in Marinette, WI. This role focuses on the design, development, testing, and certification of fire protection products for heavy-duty off-road vehicles such as haul trucks, excavators, wheel loaders, and bulldozers. Responsibilities include development of mechanical hardware including concept generation, detailed design, prototyping, and design verification testing, regulatory approval testing, and launch support. This is a mostly on-site position (not remote) and is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.
In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to: develop water-based fire protection product or system concepts and detailed designs, as directed; prototype generation and testing to international standards; conduct detailed studies to support design decisions; maintain records of design process in accordance with sound design practice and ISO requirements by performing duties directly or through subordinates when so directed. This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.
How you will do it!
Work with a team of passionate engineers, program managers, product line managers and other professionals to create world class life safety products
Analyze high level market requirements to establish design direction
Prepare design concept diagrams, detailed drawings, and specifications
Analyze designs for feasibility, cost optimization, vibration tolerance, mechanical stress, fluid flow, heat transfer, and other parameters
Direct and coordinate prototype efforts
Plan and execute test programs; analyze test data to optimize designs
Maintain a working knowledge of manufacturing methods, design products for manufacturing efficiency
Maintain knowledge of industry technology trends
Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and test standards

What we look for
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
12+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, mechanical product development, fire protection engineering, or a related technical discipline
Design verification and regulatory testing experience
Familiarity with a structured product development process
Able to apply engineering principles and mathematics to project work
Self-motivated and driven. Able to complete work on time and at high quality levels. Able to work in a collaborative team environment
Strong written and oral communications skills. Able to convey detailed technical information
High attention to detail and solid organizational skills
