Summary This position is located at Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Office of Consumer Education (OCE). As an Engagement & Policy Fellow (Program Manager) you will serve as a key program manager for efforts related to one of the agency's overall consumer financial educational and engagement campaigns or on policy issues related to one or more of the identified vulnerable populations with which OCE works.
Responsibilities As an Engagement & Policy Fellow (Program Manager), you will:
Work with Senior Fellows or agency management to identify and develop engagement campaigns and strategies on issues related to or targeting special populations, including but not limited to debt collection and repair, credit reporting and repair, lack of liquid savings to withstand financial shocks, auto finance, payment mechanisms, student loans, or small dollar lending that may impact one or more of the vulnerable population segments; Lead complex, cross-bureau engagement efforts affecting the consumer protection and decision-making of an identified population.
Collaborate with stakeholders, partners, and offices within the Bureau in the development of advisory and campaign material to provide identified consumer segments with the information they need to choose appropriate consumer financial products and services and maintain consumer health.
Lead or participate in CFPB-wide working groups tasked with analyzing major policy-making issues developing strategies and initiatives to address these issues related to one or more special populations groups. Draft clear and concise options memos to assist working groups and/or senior leadership to quickly grasp key issues, understand available data and evidence, and make decisions about how to proceed.
Develop and lead complex research projects, involving quantitative and qualitative data collection efforts in collaboration with other Bureau offices as appropriate. Identify, analyze, and summarize economic, social and financial product research on issues affecting financial decision-making of consumer segments and synthesize the results of research to senior staff on impacts the behavior of these consumer segments may have on cross-Bureau policymaking efforts to provide recommendations for improvement to better serve these consumer populations.
Establish and maintain contacts within relevant international, national, or local consumer advocacy or engagement groups to stay abreast of developments in the priorities of these groups or newly relevant issue areas facing the financial health of these consumer segments. Provide regular updates on these developments to relevant senior staff and advises on potential improvements resulting from this information.
