Grant Writer (Administrative)



Under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the Foundation Grant Writer will identify and develop relationships with granting organizations as well as coordinate the writing and submission of grant proposals to third-party entities. The position is also responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting performance data of the program activities.

 

Job Duties:

  • Generate revenues for agency capital projects and programs by conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundations, corporate, and individual funding sources
  • Identifies new program areas to match institutional priorities, using research tools
  • Work with the Finance Department to gather information necessary for reports to funders on current grant programs
  • Meet with department Heads to ascertain the progress and results of grant deployment 
  • Complies with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors
  • Provide stewardship to current donors by providing regular written updates
  • Understanding of St. Paul's institutional history and programs
  • Make appointments for the Chief Development Officer with foundation officers and other prospects; arrange for site visits and other cultivation activities
  • Maintain current records including grant tracking and reporting
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear compelling proposals
  • Excellent public speaker
  • Demonstrated knowledge in researching likely prospects
  • Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information; collect and research data; use intuition and experience to complement data; design work flows and procedures
  • Proven ability to prioritize and plan work activities; ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects
  • Strong people skills in forging relationships with managers and frontline staff
  • Able to work in multiple settings
  • Knowledge of ethical fundraising practices
  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies
  • Strong contributor in team environment
  • Ability to attend social functions and/or award ceremonies as the professional representative of St. Paul's

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university preferred with a minimum of two years of related experience and a proven track record in grant writing, or other creative writing experience. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum of two years experience with grant writing in a nonprofit setting, or demonstrated equivalent or writing abilities
  • Proven history in monitoring and meeting income goals
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments
  • Able to work well in a team environment
  • Attention to social details and relationship
