Engagement and Communication Specialist (Biotech)



The Employee Engagement & Communication Specialist will report to the Director, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Culture. The Employee Engagement & Communication Specialist will play an essential role with engagement and branding in contributing to our people strategy by innovating programs which drive employee satisfaction, work effectiveness and inspire the way employees, prospective employees, business partners and customers think about Capital Blue Cross. The role offers a dynamic, collaborative environment working closely with our various HR functions to ensure that our environment and culture are rich with programs and processes that are optimized to attract, engage, retain and help develop our employees. The Employee Engagement & Communication Specialist is responsible for supporting the department with coordination, facilitation, and executing projects, processes and tools that support the engagement strategy including but not limited to; employee experience, engagement and communication. The position will help with planning, writing, editing, measuring and coordinating a wide range of internal messages, and employee engagement initiatives to promote wellbeing, engagement and innovation. Plans and manages employee surveying activities and other related duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Employee Engagement & Surveys: Work with HR leadership to identify opportunities and implement solutions to improve both our short and long-term engagement programs and employee experience initiatives. Participate in the development of strategies focused on elevating the employer brand in innovative ways while creating a consistent, positive experience for employees across the enterprise. Work with the Director to ensure successful implementation of employee engagement strategies. Help identify, map, assess and measure the touchpoints across the “hire to retire” journey, identifying opportunities and challenges, then creating supporting programs and processes. Manage annual and interim employee satisfaction surveys and platform, including the internal planning, survey design, implementation, analysis, result communications, and trend monitoring. Act as primary liaison with survey vendor. Prepare engagement reporting, constantly evaluating data and chances for improvement and preparing and delivering stakeholder updates on business outcomes. Capitalize on cultural trends and business events to manage our engagement calendar, driving awareness and program participation in support of our key HR stakeholders, including Talent Acquisition, Compensation, Benefits, Recognition, Performance Management, Training & Development, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) and more. Support our DEI Employee Resource Groups and other Diversity and Inclusion initiatives, enhancing employee experience by fostering an environment of through engagement programs. Influence and help shape employee engagement events and programs, ranging from newsletter communications to morale building celebrations. Serve as liaison between Human Resources and other internal departments/staff to effect organizational cultural change. Assist HR Business Partners and management in carrying out on-going projects.
  • Communication & Digital: Support the development of our leadership narrative around the employee experience and engagement plan, including communication tools and resources to support unified messaging across the organization. Build and manage proactive communications plans – including content, execution timelines, and distribution strategies – for internal and external audiences in support of company culture and employee engagement goals across the organization. Serve as culture and engagement brand champion to lead to-way communication between brand values and behaviors. Design, build and maintain our HR Intranet sites content. Liaise with Marketing to develop content, request assets, identify storytelling opportunities and oversee content development and publishing on our Intranet as appropriate. Distil and synthesize data and information from across the company to develop a range of communications materials (emails, presentations, web pages, blog posts, etc.). Identify opportunities for alternative communication methods for both internal and external messaging.

Skills:

  • Ability to work in a hybrid work environment.
  • Strong writing skills required.
  • Ability to focus and translate business goals into optimal HR and employee engagement solutions that are human, authentic and scalable.
  • Demonstrated ability to challenge the status quo and serve as a champion of cultural competency required.
  • Proven track record of exercising a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy in interactions with all levels of the organization in a matrixed team environment and collaborating with others.
  • Excellent follow through skills and the ability to anticipate and address business needs proactively.
  • Strong detail orientation and the ability to prioritize multiple projects concurrently is essential.
  • Team-oriented attitude balanced with ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Outstanding organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office capabilities; experience preparing presentation materials for executive audiences.

Experience:

  • 6+ years of relevant, professional work experience required.
  • 4+ years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, specifically with a mix of employee engagement or branding/communication required.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, written/verbal communication skills, and experience working with cross-functional teams required.
  • Experience in communications/change management to improve program efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Experience analyzing enterprise data to drive programs, content, campaign planning and decision making.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Communications, Business or equivalent.
