Position Information: Responsible for all inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations performed on all steam and chilled water plant generating equipment, related peripheral equipment, utility tunnel distribution system, and other related equipment under plant control. Essential Duties:
Assists plant manager with inventory management, maintaining a safe work place, and stocking shop expendable, and PPE supplies. Encourage/motivate Lead Mechanics and identify opportunities for training.
Inspects and directs all work, to include but not limited to inspections, alterations, maintenance and repair of the plant equipment and tunnel distribution system.
Ensures work is scheduled in order of priority and completed in a timely manner. As plant safety officer, observe and practice all safety rules and regulations relating to the equipment under his/her control.
Be particularly able to recognize and prevent conditions that could lead to a fire or explosion. Assists with cost estimates and material requisition of parts, supplies, and tools required for sustained plant operation.
Oversees training of all apprentices, new, and veteran employees. Responsible for safety training and procedures in a plant as well as departmental operating procedures.
Recommends to management any changes to operations, maintenance policies, and procedures that improves efficiency, communication and safety.
Ensures plant operators and mechanics have access to second level advice and assistance in the event of a plant emergency. In the absence of the Plant Manager, assumes responsibility for total plant operations.
May perform more complex mechanical repairs and trouble shoot equipment failures.
Responsible for approving employee time off requests. Schedules duties and recommends employee vacation schedules. Prepares performance evaluations and recommends personnel changes.
Keeps abreast of changing technology, procedures, and materials by reading trade journals, safety codes and manuals. Informs employees of pertinent and helpful information.
Performs related duties as assigned to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: 48 months experience in preventative maintenance, trouble-shooting, and mechanical repairs on steam generation equipment and large tonnage centralized chillers. 36 months of the 48 months supervisory experience. Equivalency/Substitution: In lieu of the Mechanical Journeyman's license will accept 10 years of direct mechanical experience with: brazing, compressor repair, control wiring, pipe fitting, proper tool selection and use for the job, responsible refrigerant use, valve packing and or repair, ability to assess and recommend a repair ~ mechanical system diagnosis, and ability/confidence to safely test one's repair. Certifications/Licenses:
Mechanical Journeyman's License
State of Oklahoma, Class II High Pressure Boiler Operator License
Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date

Have a thorough knowledge of principles and theory used in the operation of a central plant to include: heat transfer, water analysis, electrical circuitry, fuel characteristics, combustion, chemical treatment, and safe operation of all plant equipment
Able to service and repair either Carrier, Trane, or York Chillers
