Talent Acquisition Specialist - Marine Ops/Deck & Engine (Human Resources)

About the Opportunity:

The Talent Acquisition Specialist is responsible for the recruitment and hiring of Marine Operations (Deck & Engineering) employees for the company's overnight river cruise vessels. This individual will be responsible for networking with various groups, including academies/universities, maritime programs, maritime networking groups and recruiters etc. to continue the spread of knowledge about our company, as well as post jobs, recruit, interview, coordinate processes and workflow, make offers and ultimately hire new employees for our fleet. The Talent Acquisition Specialist is a front line/go-to resource for new candidates interested in learning more about coming to work for our organization.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody American Queen Voyages' RESPECT Service System.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Partners with HR Directors, Marine Operations leaders and Talent Acquisition Manager to strategize ways to build a diverse talent pipeline based on short and long-term staffing projections for the AQV fleet of overnight river cruise vessels
  • Actively maintains applicant data related to all resumes and skill assessment information for current and past employees and applicants to be able to identify or screen out potential applicants for positions or assignments, including Culture Index (CI) surveys
  • Perform full life cycle recruiting including sourcing, pre-screening, face to face or virtual interviews, coordination of management interviews, selection of candidates, offers of employment, reference checks and other required onboarding activities
  • Assists with developing, coordinating, writing and posting job postings; posts all positions online
  • Works with leadership regarding improvements in the recruiting process to minimize cycle time of vacant positions
  • Interview candidates within the framework of the position specification; possess strong ability to screen, interview and prepare a candidate within an appropriate and consistent timeline; utilizes interviewing tools that have proven to be effective and lawful and without discrimination
  • Develop proactive and creative recruiting sourcing strategies and proactively build a robust pipeline of diverse talent, including active and passive candidate sourcing, cold-calling and internet-based sourcing
  • Build and maintain network of potential candidates through market research and ongoing relationship management
  • Participate in industry specific recruiting events, associations and other relevant networking organizations; participate in special projects/recruiting initiatives, including assessment of best practices in interviewing techniques, leveraging of internal sources of talent and identification of top performers for senior-level openings as they may arise
  • Aggressively manage requisitions and anticipate department needs within each division to deliver high quality talent; remain in constant communication with leadership to stay apprised of operational objectives and vessel needs
  • Provide reports and requested information related to recruiting metrics as requested
  • Contributes to the overall success of the Human Resources department by participating in HR initiatives and projects as requested
  • Assists other Talent Acquisition Specialists within the HR team as needed; cross-trains to learn recruitment of other roles as needed, including F&B and Hotel roles as applicable
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements & Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or other applicable field required – or equivalent of experience

Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience with applicant tracking systems – preferably Ultimate Software – must be proficient w/ technology, learn systems quickly and have an extreme eye for detail
  • Prior experience with Microsoft – PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive
  • Solid understanding of marine licensing requirements and how to recruit/retain Deck and Engineering employees strongly desired
  • Knowledge of current employment law is required
  • Experience managing multiple position/discipline openings; mass recruitment/hiring experience strongly desired
  • General HR experience strongly desired
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven track record of working successfully in a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task, i.e. manage multiple priorities with similar deadlines
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency and efficiency
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, quickly changing environment
  • Must be detail-oriented and extremely organized
  • Must be willing to accept regular changes of direction in work and priorities with a positive attitude
  • Must be a proactive thinker; constantly think ahead to better serve our customers, both internal and external

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in similar role; experience in human resources role preferred
  • Travel/tourism, maritime/marine and/or cruise industry experience required

Other:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess valid driver's license and have, as well as maintain, a clear driving record.
  • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests including but not limited to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident/incident testing
