Laboratory Assistant II, (Tuesday - Saturday) (Finance)
About the Job
The Laboratory Assistant II is a core member of the Lab Operations team. This position supports routine testing in a high complex clinical diagnostic laboratory and works with laboratory technologists who perform patient sample testing. The duties may include equipment maintenance and reagent preparation in addition to other tasks. Laboratory Operations Assistants are assigned to one of three shifts and may be assigned to work any day that the lab is operational.
This is a regulated position and additional information may be available from QA on the qualifications for this role pertaining to regulatory guidelines.
Regular onsite work at a designated FMI location is an essential function of this role.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform data entry with pathologists, including sample quality assessments and measurements.
• Triage sample cancel requests and other inquiries to the appropriate lab team member for response while maintaining sample integrity.
• Author and edit relevant SOPs and documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and reflect process improvements.
• Perform routine scanning of stained slides with the Aperio ScanScope.
• Assist in attributing and debulking clinical and research study patient samples.
• Assist with de-bulking in accessioning and Pathology Review.
• Maintain adequate stock and efficient use of supplies necessary for performing all procedures and preparation of reagents.
• Maintain proper documentation including proper specimen handling, labeling, and quality control measures.
• Participate in biohazard, chemical, and general safety and other continuing education programs.
• Complete projects under guidance of senior lab employees.
• Work in a lab environment using chemicals and reagents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
• High School diploma or General Education Degree and 2+ years of work experience in the logistics, science, technology field, or another regulated industry; OR,
• Bachelor's degree
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science degree in biological or life sciences
• 2+ years of work or academic experience in the logistics, science, technology, or another regulated field
• 1+ year(s) of professional experience in a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments/ College of American Pathologists certified laboratory
• Demonstrated history of successfully managing multiple projects
• Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
• Computer proficiency, including data entry skills (such as Microsoft Office Suite)
• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor with other departments and colleagues
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, particularly with scientific or technical information
• Ability to maintain own workflow and meet project deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills, including strong written and oral communication, collaboration, and problem solving
• Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task effectively
• Strong organizational skills
• Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data
