Job Description

KPFF Seattle's Transportation Team focuses on designing infrastructure that moves people and connects communities across the region. We work on a wide range of transit and transportation projects, including roadway and trail improvements, fish passage enhancements, and major infrastructure efforts throughout the Puget Sound and Pacific Northwest. Our team supports projects from early planning and feasibility through design, permitting, and construction. We collaborate closely with public agencies, transit authorities, contractors, and fellow engineers to deliver thoughtful, sustainable solutions that improve mobility, restore natural systems, and strengthen the built environment.

Located in downtown Seattle, our Transportation Engineering team is seeking an Entry Level Transportation Engineering Designer. This position will provide the opportunity for you to dive headfirst into real-world projects from day one. You'll have the opportunity to work on impactful transportation projects across Washington, including work for public agencies like WSDOT, local transit agencies, and municipalities. You will support multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with clients, contributing to projects that positively impact communities throughout the state; as well as:

  • Assist in the design and development of transportation projects, including roadways, trails, and transit facilities.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, and design documentation under the mentorship of experienced engineers.
  • Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Build expertise in navigating federal, state, and local regulations, while aligning with KPFF's and our clients' standards and practices.
  • Join client meetings and site visits to gain exposure to project development and stakeholder engagement.
  • Participate in KPFF's Forefront program, our commitment to mentorship, lifelong learning, and career development.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An ABET accredited bachelor's degree in civil (preferred) or environmental engineering
  • 0-3 years' experience working under a licensed professional engineer
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Passionate about providing exceptional client service

Desired Qualification (Optional):
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or scheduled date for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Coursework and/or familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Coursework and/or familiarity with MicroStation and OpenRoads

Additional Information

Physical Demands:

  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer.
  • Occasionally, may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasional visits to project and construction sites may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.
  • Travel to project sites or client meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Compensation:

The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected pay for a qualified candidate is $78,000 - $90,000 annually.
