Prototype Technician - Contract to potential direct (Finance)



The Cooper Standard Prototype Technician fabricates prototype parts ensuring that end product conforms to requirements identified on the work order, customer blueprint and/or Cooper Engineering specifications. This is a hands on, salaried role, requiring a willingness to learn new techniques, and a very high attention to details.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Works with Senior Engineering Technician's to gain experience on all the fabricating processes we use in the prototype group. This includes operating extrusion machines, Injection molding presses and other equipment
  • Produces prototype fabrications in a timely and quality manner
  • Maintains accurate records of all time and expenses incurred in the fabrication of each prototype order
  • Performs required inspections of conformance and immediately notifies Manager of any concerns or discrepancies
  • Processes orders with minimal supervision
  • Must operate in a manner that reinforces, supports, and is consistent with the Cooper Standard Leadership Model
  • Ensures 6S, housekeeping and health and safety standards are maintained
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description

Education and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Fabrication, blue print reading skills, and equipment knowledge is a plus
  • Working knowledge of fabrication equipment set up is a plus
  • Strong mechanical aptitude required
  • Ability to lift up to 55 pounds on a regular basis
  • Willingness and ability to rarely travel, as necessary

Work Environment/Work Conditions:

  • Clean, climate controlled manufacturing shop as well as professional office environment
  • First Shift - Overtime is expected
  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor
  • Occasional travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required (less than 10%)
  • Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
