Communications Manager (Project Management)



Summary:

  • The Communications Manager plays a key role in leading the implementation of the campus and student communications and content strategy and is primarily responsible for helping develop, craft, and distribute our content across a mix of traditional and digital media channels to both internal and external audiences.
  • Will work closely with other departments within the organization to establish organizational messages, maintain production/editorial calendar, keep staff informed of developments, and manage most internally focused communications activities.
  • Manages and collaborates with external agencies and partners to achieve communication and content outcome goals that are within budget and quality parameters.
  • In addition, key duties include creating informative content, press releases, and articles to share both West Coast University and American Career College brand promises and services, content testing research, competitor analysis, and coordination of logistics for capturing content at campus events.
  • Additional responsibilities include the ability to work with Marketing Analytics Manager to analyze, prepare and publish data reports relevant to internal and external communication channels, and other duties as assigned.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Proofreads all written content, working closely with other departments to ensure compliance.
  • Decides which assignments take priority and schedules accordingly.
  • Manages the content development process, scheduling crew visits to local campuses, community events and setting up interviews.
  • Manage and leads communication specialists and student interns, who work to tell the stories of the organization, its student body, faculty, and associates.
  • Keep internal clients abreast of progress related to communication projects.
  • Translate ideas to the creative and content teams for internal and external communication efforts.
  • Manages all campus and student related creative and copy requests from the business.
  • Collaborates and strategizes with Integrated Marketing team for student and campus content advertising requests.

  • Research and collaborates on blog posts, story scripts and other communication pieces with the Integrated Marketing team, Digital Content Production Manager and Social Media Manager.
  • Ensure campus communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organization.
  • Evaluates success measures for content campaigns across channels.
  • Proactively propose new communication strategies and tests different tactics.
  • Supervise projects to guarantee all internal and external communications content is publication ready.
  • Stay up to date on trends in communicating with multiple demographics and generations.
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies that build student loyalty, brand awareness, and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain content on the Campus Display Screens.
  • Assists with uncovering newsworthy stories among faculty, students, and associates; conducts interviews, schedules interviews and research facts/data.
  • Partner with Campus Leadership on events, content, and communications needs to maintain campus calendar.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in journalism or corporate communications, advertising, public relations, or video production required.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the communications team, ensuring individual and collective goals align with organizational objectives.
  • Proven experience (2+ years) managing or supervising a team, preferably in communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop employees to achieve professional growth and organizational objectives.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to oversee multiple direct reports and complex projects simultaneously.
  • Experience implementing performance management processes, including setting goals, delivering feedback, and conducting evaluations.
  • Familiarity with conflict resolution techniques and strategies for maintaining a productive team dynamic.
  • Ability to inspire creativity and innovation within a team while maintaining focus on results-driven strategies.
  • Competence in project management tools and techniques to allocate resources efficiently and track team progress.
  • Ability to create video content that displays effective multi-media storytelling techniques.
  • Experience managing fast-paced projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Understanding video technology, SLR cameras, lighting, and sound.
  • Strong computer aptitude on both Mac and PC platforms.
  • Demonstrated mastery of Adobe Creative Suite software.
  • Understanding of public relations and internal and external communications.
  • Basic knowledge of websites and content management systems (especially Mac IOS, Microsoft Office, social media, photography, and videography).
  • Highly familiar with digital channel programs and strategies, inclusive of new and emerging technologies that support content/message delivery and measurement.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills and the journalistic ability to source stories from employees.
  • Proven experience creating targeted content.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques.
  • Familiar with interpreting performance marketing metrics, including engagement rate optimization and other marketing KPIs.
  • Familiarity working with web design teams, creative teams, SEO teams, PPC teams, IT teams.
  • Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Works well with technology on various platforms.
  • A curious individual with a broad mindset.
  • Strategic thinker who can provide lasting solutions.
  • An ability to face stressful and uncertain situations with calmness and composure and inspire a team to do the same.
  • Ability to work comfortably with high-ranking executives in the development and approval process.

  • Excellent project and people management skills.
  • Experience in higher education is valuable but not required.
  • This is an onsite position where you will work in our Administrative office in Irvine daily.

Compensation:

  • $87,964 - $127,521
