The Kitchen Aide is responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for residents, ensuring that dietary needs and preferences are met. This role involves planning menus, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and adhering to health and safety standards. The Kitchen Aid works closely with the dietary team to provide a positive dining experience for residents, contributing to their overall well-being and quality of life.

How I contribute

Assist with food preparation and support the cooking of meals according to planned menus.Help adapt meals to meet residents dietary needs, allergies, and preferences as directed by the cook or dietary manager.Ensure meals are served on time, at the correct temperatures, and in an appealing manner.Assist in keeping the kitchen, dining, and storage areas clean, organized, and in compliance with health and safety standards.Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, equipment, and work surfaces after use.Help with receiving, unpacking, and storing food deliveries and supplies.Monitor food and supply levels, and inform the cook or supervisor when items need to be reordered.Follow all food safety, handling, and sanitation procedures.Report any equipment or maintenance issues promptly.Provide support to residents during meal service, including addressing basic food preferences and needs.Communicate with care staff about any observed dietary concerns or resident feedback.Work cooperatively with the dietary team, following directions from the cook, dietary manager, or nutritionist.Participate in team meetings and training sessions to stay informed about kitchen operations and resident needs.Maintain confidentiality of residents personal and health information.Support compliance with all local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning and success of the program.May encounter risk of working with persons with SMI (serious mental illness) that may include, but not limited to persons in mental health crisis, persons that may be intoxicated or impaired by drugs or alcohol, persons who may be DTO (danger to others), DTS (Danger to Self), or GD (Gravely Disabled). If such situations arise, staff will be required to call local emergency personnel to help deescalate the crisis, use crisis intervention techniques, and consult with supervisor as soon as practically possible.

What I bring

High School Diploma (or Equivalent)1-year prior experience in a kitchen, cafeteria, restaurant or food service environment; or comparable quantitative field or equivalent related work experience. Class C Driving LicenseCertification in food handling and safety practices (e.g., ServSafe)Strong understanding of food safety standards, sanitation procedures, and dietary guidelines, including accommodating allergies and special diets. Skilled in safe food handling, kitchen equipment operation, and maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal health regulations. Knowledgeable in supporting menu preparation and meal service in a residential care or healthcare setting.Able to follow detailed instructions and established recipes while maintaining accuracy and consistency. Demonstrates the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment, multitask, and prioritize duties. Capable of collaborating with team members and communicating effectively with staff and residents to support a positive dining experience.Empathy and compassion, strong communication skills, collaborative nature, resilience and patience. Commitment to whole person wellness.Knowledge of regulations and standards in residential care. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Culinary training or certification preferred. Persons with lived experience preferred.
