Teacher Assistant (Education)
The Village School of Naples continues to grow and is accepting resumes for a Teacher Assistant for the 2020-2021 School Year in our Early Childhood Education Division for our 3 and 4 year olds. The Village School values inquiry-based, student-centered learning aimed to empower and inspire students to create solutions to challenges faced in an ever-changing world.
A Teacher Assistant must love working with children and be devoted to creating a safe and nurturing environment. He/she will work closely with the Lead Teacher to understand the needs of the class and help with record-keeping, preparations or planning. To do this job well, he/she must have a positive attitude, demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have an interest in learning effective teaching methods and approaches.
Teacher Assistants will work directly under the guidance of a Lead Teacher and assist in guiding and educating our students. Compassionate and self-motivated individuals with a specific interest in education should consider this opportunity to supervise and/or work with children of various ages and educational needs individually, in small groups, or in a whole group setting. Teacher Assistants help in carrying out effective lesson plans, assist students' understanding of concepts being taught, and help to keep the classroom organized.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Following the lead teacher in setting a tone for the students.
· Ensuring the safety of the students.
· Working with individual students or small groups as assigned by the lead teacher to reinforce learning.
· Modeling Christ Skills, emphasizing this conduct model in all areas at all times.
· Maintain a safe and orderly classroom.
· Copying, preparing, setting up, and distributing classroom materials.
· Set up lunch and nap time.
· Sanitize toys and play equipment.
· Assist lead teacher with various tasks, like grading assignments and attendance.
· Communicate with children's parents or guardians about daily activities, behaviors, and related issues.
· Transitioning students to related arts classes while modeling the positive behavior support as outlined in the classroom.
· Supervision throughout the school day (lunch, recess, morning arrival, dismissal, etc.)
· Support students' social, emotional, and academic growth and report possible concerns or challenges to the lead teacher.
· Maintaining good open communication with the lead teacher.
· Supporting the mission and objectives of the school's learning philosophy.
· Working to maintain a team with others on staff.
· Assisting a substitute teacher in the event the lead teacher is absent.
· Assist lead teacher and students through distance learning, in the event of an extended school closing, to provide course content, answering student inquiries, monitoring progress, updating records.
· Attend required meetings for the staff.
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution if the academic preparation is out of the field of early childhood education, a minimum of twelve relevant semester hours or their in-service equivalent shall be obtained.
· Spoken and written language skills must be strong and knowledge of English language and used appropriately.
· Must be nurturing, enjoy being with children and interacting with them on a daily basis.
· Demonstrate strong support for the stated learning philosophy of The Village School. Workshops and extra study may be required to ensure a thorough understanding of the philosophy.
· Understanding of 21st century classroom practices and interdisciplinary connections is required.
· Technology skills must be strong.
· Must be able to articulate their faith and support the school's Christian environment.
· Demonstrate strong distance learning skills through computer proficiency, teaching aptitudes, communication, reliability, and attention to details.
· Must be nurturing, enjoy children and interacting with them on a daily basis.
· Physically, this position requires considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, standing, and sitting on the floor with children on a regular basis.
