Purpose: The United States Attorney's Office in Lexington, KY requires the services of a Litigation Support Legal Assistant to provide technical, analytical and administrative assistance to support the litigation needs of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO). Performs a variety of automated litigation support tasks that are necessary to track, organize, and process electronic evidence as well as prepare and develop trial exhibits in criminal and civil cases. Knowledge and skill in the use of Microsoft Office, Windows, off-the-shelf automated litigation support software (for example, IPRO Eclipse and Trial Director), audio/video editing software, and other applications used to support automated litigation functions is preferred. Knowledge of and skill using litigation support hardware (for example, personal computers, media duplicating hardware, projectors, and multi-functional printers) is required.
Duties: · Assists staff with the automated organization, processing and utilization of electronic evidence for efficient retrieval through means such as scanning, electronic data processing, loading file imports of documents into a database. Assists with monitoring, quality control and verifying data, user input and output to automated litigation support systems. An appropriate candidate will be called to troubleshoot, test and implement automated litigation support software, policies and procedures. Provides automated litigation support help desk customer support.
o Performs file creation, manipulation, conversions and data loading of electronic case information for upload into off-the shelf software applications. Must be able to ensure the accuracy by performing and documenting quality and accuracy checks.
o Provides trial support including audio/video conversion and editing, preparing electronic trial presentations, maps, charts, photo boards and other demonstrative exhibits, hardware set up and troubleshooting.
o Performs media duplication, conversion and troubleshooting. Prepares files and data for storage on optical and other external media. Documents and transfers files, tests and verifies end-product.
o Manages and operates a variety of computer hardware such as personal computers, scanners, printers, plotters, audiovisual devices and other state-of- the-art equipment to organize case information, conceptualize exhibits and complete presentation projects.
o Provides user services and support for litigation support software applications such as IPRO Eclipse, Relativity, LAW Prediscovery, IPRO, CaseMap and Trial Director and Microsoft Office (Access, PowerPoint, Excel and Word) and other applications to support automated litigation support functions.
o Develops detailed technical and user guides and other forms of documentation for specific databases and application systems and prepares materials for litigation support procedures and workflows and training sessions.
· Establishes and maintains a variety of files. Searches legal reference files for information needed by AUSAs. Separates, screens, selects, assembles, and organizes files and records material for disposition or transfer to records depository in accordance with established procedures.
Qualifications required: Shall have the ability to become proficient in Microsoft Office, Windows and various off-the-shelf litigation support software applications, for example IPRO Eclipse, Relativity, LAW Prediscovery, CaseMap and Trial Director or other similar and related litigation support software applications, audio/video editing software and graphic/presentation applications. Must possess:
· Knowledge of standard litigation support principles, methods and technology to perform routine and recurring litigation support assignments, identify and resolve technical issues and problems, and provide information and support to litigation support customers in the district.
· Skill in meeting and dealing with people in a courteous and tactful manner.
· Skill in operating personal computers, audio video equipment, scanners, printers, plotters, projectors, CD/DVD players, optical and media duplicators.
· Ability to communicate orally and in writing with diverse audiences. · Knowledge of and skill in the application of analytical methods.
· Ability to create technical documents that are grammatically correct, easy to follow and adhere to a standard format.
· Must have the ability to prove U.S. citizenship
Background and Screening: Candidates must be able to favorably complete a government background investigation and meet DOJ residency requirements. Hours of Operation: The contractor will generally perform the services required under this contract within a 40 hour work/week, Monday through Friday.
