Transit Project Estimator (Finance)



As a key member of Horton Transit team, this technical sales professional will leverage strong business acumen, customer intimacy, solution knowledge, organization and documentation skills to win high-profile projects within Commercial, Security and Health Care industries as well as transit station projects involving pedestrian door systems. Horton Transit is a fast-growing, project-based business unit within Horton Automatics focused on the turnkey design, manufacture and installation of platform screen door and gate systems for mass transit stations in airports, hotels, subways and other venues across the Americas and around the world. As transit estimator, you will liaison with internal project/business managers and our global customers such as Alstom, Mitsubishi, and Hitachi to understand unique project requirements and prepare on-target, executable proposals (RFI's, RFP's, RFQ's). You will also manage the preparation of contracts for customers and subcontractors, assist in monitoring our performance on projects, and ensure the fulfilment of any post-project warranty requests.   • Excellent customer service skills.
  • 1-3 years sales experience in building commercial products industry, construction industry, or project management or in a customer service position in estimating and quoting.
  • Experience in the door industry a plus.
  • Sales or accounts receivable / payable skills extremely helpful in this role.
  • Proficient in MS Office / Oracle.
  • Experience with Primavera or MS Project is a plus.


Education
  • BS or BA Degree or equivalent of two to four years related experience and/or training

"Ownership" responsibility for executing RFI, RFP, and RFQ requirements.
  • Reviews project specifications, creates and submits bid packages including quotations and compliance statements for customers including General Contractors for large and small scale new construction and remodel projects.
  • Reviews bids from vendors, and subcontractors. Work with subcontractors to identify the scope of work for service / installation and negotiating fair labor quotes to positively impact the profitability of service invoices. Track installer requirements (insurance, background, drug testing requirements) to meet customer expectations.
  • Interact with Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Legal and Credit departments regarding essential customer requirements. Work with subcontractors, project/business management team, architectural firms, and national contractors to confirm that the proper products and equipment are installed and quoted for installation projects.
  • Ability to negotiate bids, including follow up concerning submitted proposals.
  • Order products to support proposals and bids submitted.
  • It is an essential function of this job to show up on time and be ready to work your regularly scheduled hours. Must be available to work a flexible schedule as dictated by the needs of the business.

Other Responsibilities
  • Receive calls from contractors and customers on a daily basis concerning technical and specification questions and proper product to install. Answer technical application questions from potential customers on a regular basis.
  • Provide sales forecasting.
  • Actively seek out new sales opportunities, specifically in the area of project based business requiring new designs, material delivery, testing and commissioning.
  • Up to 60% domestic and international travel required
