This position performs work on joining, surfacing or fabricating or repairing structures or parts of metal as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order welding procedures, or oral instructions using electric arc welding or acetylene equipment. Incumbent works under general supervision performing work activities according to company operating procedures for compliance to safety measures. May be assigned to work on a rig or truck if needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Performs repair on equipment and/or structure for problems in accordance with company and industry standards and safety procedures.
Performs maintenance, repair, fabricating, welding, remodeling and construction on a variety of metal products from samples and sketches.
Performs manual forging, shaping, straightening, sizing, dressing and heat treating of metal products, etc.
Operates acetylene acting torch, welding machine, mig machine, grinders, etc. to join, surface, fabricate or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials according to specifications.
Maintains equipment and work area ensuring a clean, safe and hazard free work environment and equipment in proper working condition.
Maintains stock of all necessary supplies, and keeps proper records of materials used and hours worked for billing purposes.
May inspect completed work for conformance to established specifications.
May perform diagnosis on equipment if needed.
May perform inspection on equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Wears proper safety equipment on the job (when applicable):
a. Goggles, face shields or safety glasses
b. Ear plugs/muffs
c. Steel toed boots.
d. Hard hats
e. Safety belts
f. Anti-fall devices
g. SCBA (Self-contained Breathing Apparatus)
h. H2S detectors
i. Slicker or tyvek chemical suits
k. FR uniforms
Two (2) to three (3) years of welding experience or equivalent is highly preferred.
A valid driver's license is required; CDL B is needed if driving welding truck is necessary.
Ability to operate various kinds of welding equipment in a safe manner.
Ability to read and understand blueprints, sketches and charts.
Ability to work in a team environment and perform under all types of weather and physical conditions.
Ability to interact with others and communicate effectively, reading and understanding safety regulations.
Must have the skills and ability to repair and perform routine maintenance on welding equipment.
Must possess valid drivers license; may need CDL B if drives welding truck over 26,000 lbs.
Must pass post-employment drug/alcohol urinalysis.
Must pass post-offer "Essential Job Functions Test.”
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred .
