Research Assistant I - Neurology (BRAINS Lab/Kim Lab) (Finance)
UTHealth Houston's Neurology Research department is hiring for a full-time, benefits-eligible Research Assistant I to join their team in the Kim Lab. This position will perform all aspects of the project. One major duty will be maintaining the animal lines, weaning, and genotyping. Several of these lines have involved breeding and genotyping strategies (e.g. an inducible cell-specific knockout on a reporter background). In addition, the Research Assistant will perform brain preparation and sectioning. The RA I will contribute to the post-op care of animals. They will be responsible for maintaining cell cultures (e.g. neuronal culture, if needed, endothelial cultures, astrocyte cultures, and mixed cultures) and coordinating for experiments. They will contribute to the blinding and randomization procedures by preparing coded drugs/virus/peptides/etc. and maintaining a database for mouse randomization by unique animal number.
This position is funded by grants that comprise 50% or more of the funding. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon the availability of funding for this position. Your employment may end upon the cancellation or discontinuation of the project, program, or funding.

Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds constantly and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
