Enterprise Project Controls Leader (Finance)

Minnesota Power is seeking an Enterprise Projects Control Leader to align project controls with corporate strategy, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. This role will provide project control leadership for complex, large-scale enterprise capital projects including high voltage transmission lines, HVDC systems, solar and wind energy projects, and energy storage initiatives, all aimed at supporting Minnesota Power's EnergyForward drive to achieve 100% carbon-free energy. The Enterprise Projects Control Leader will oversee budget development, cost forecasting, and variance analysis, as well as monitor schedule performance, identify delays, and recommend corrective actions. When you join our team as an Enterprise Projects Controls Leader, you will oversee change control processes to manage scope, cost, and schedule impacts, in addition to leveraging data analytics and business intelligence tools to drive insights.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and oversee the development, implementation, standardization, and management of comprehensive project controls practices across a portfolio of complex, large-scale capital projects with a focus on budgeting, scheduling, and performance reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop and maintain comprehensive project budgets and schedules, ensuring financial alignment and timely execution of key milestones.
  • Responsible for monitoring expenditures, analyzing variances, and applying cost control strategies to mitigate financial risks.
  • Participate in the review and negotiation of project contracts to ensure alignment with project objectives and compliance with regulatory and Company standards.
  • Leverage data analytics and visualization tools, driving the development of standardized dashboards, while delivering insights to stakeholders, supporting informed decision-making, and continuous improvement in project performance.
  • May direct the work of team members.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Engineering or a related field, is required.
    • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) or equivalent is preferred but not required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Eight or more years of job-related experience in project controls or equivalent, preferably in utility or construction industries.
  • Experience in budgeting, cost control, and scheduling of large-scale capital projects is highly desired.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • These positions may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. These positions may report to one of the following locations which will be determined at the time of hire between the company and the selected candidate: Duluth, MN; Cloquet, MN; Eveleth, MN; Cohasset, MN; Coleraine, MN; or Little Falls, MN.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Power BI, Oracle).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
  • The expected annual compensation range for this position is $91,000 - $114,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
