Springer Nature is looking to recruit a Locum Associate/Senior Editor for Lab Animal, a Nature Portfolio journal.
Lab Animal is part of the Nature Research portfolio of journals and is hosted on nature.com https://www.nature.com/laban/. The journal is dedicated to in vivo science and technology that improves our basic understanding and use of model organisms of human health and disease. In addition to basic research, methods and technologies, Lab Animal also covers important news, business and regulatory matters that impact the development and application of model organisms for preclinical research. Lab Animal is managed and works alongside a group of Nature Journals dedicated to methodology and applied biomedical sciences, including Nature Methods, Nature Biotechnology and Nature Biomedical Engineering.
Applicants should have a PhD in a field of biological or biomedical research, and should be able to demonstrate a general interest in other areas of research beyond their own. Previous editorial experience is not required, but is an additional advantage.
The successful applicant will work closely with the Chief Editor on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, commissioning and editing of features and manuscripts and writing for the journal. The job will also involve liaising with the scientific community through laboratory visits and conference attendance, via remote calls and on-site visits when permitted.
The position will be based in one of our main editorial offices in New York, Berlin or London where the editorial team is based.
We are currently able to choose whether we work remotely or in the office and have a strong virtual on-boarding induction in place.
When it is fully safe to return to the office, we have a Global Working from Home Policy which will be discussed during interview
Applicants should send a CV; a brief cover letter explaining their interest in the post and a 300-word Highlight in the style of Lab Animal (see https://www.nature.com/laban/) on a peer-reviewed research paper that has caught their attention recently.
