Content Specialist (Media)



JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for developing outstanding communications that educate PERA members, retirees and other stakeholders about PERA and its benefits. This position transforms benefit and investment information into simple and engaging content to educate PERA's 600,000 members and retires using digital and written communication with specific, measurable goals in mind and uses measurement tools to evaluate performance. Key to success will be strong writing and a proven ability to work collaboratively to develop integrated content strategies that support business objectives.

The ability to work effectively independently in a deadline driven environment is a must. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Writes clear and compelling newsletters, publications, articles, and blog posts to educate stakeholders about PERA and its benefits
  • Supports plan development working with Communications staff to identify new ways to engage members, employees and other stakeholders. Actively participates in annual planning cycle to identify audience needs and programming priorities
  • Contributes to the development of an enterprise-wide editorial calendar
  • Develops editorial calendar for blogs aligning with overall priorities and enterprise calendar
  • Directly oversees development and posting of content for blogs to ensure regular, on-time publication
  • Publishes blog posts, measures and assesses content performance for continuous improvement
  • Works with team members to establish goals for each program using qualitative and quantitative metrics. Provides regular recommendations to help achieve goals
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues in other specialty areas on projects to develop multi- channel content
  • Edits a range of content developed by others, including but not limited to messages, fact sheets, blog posts, and executive correspondence
  • Develops specific content inspired by PERA membership
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of current laws and pending legislation in matters pertaining to PERA and supports the government relations program through content development
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of PERA benefit structure and supports member education efforts by developing or editing relevant educational materials
  • Stays current with financial, investment and pension industry trends to inform content and communication strategy
  • Participates in training and educational opportunities for ongoing professional development
  • Maintains regular and prompt attendance in the workplace
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, public relations or related field; a minimum of three years of progressive and relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality communications content targeted to appropriate audience
  • Ability to connect with PERA members and employees to mine storytelling content
  • Ability to manage projects on a deadline
  • Ability to translate complex concepts clearly and concisely using digital, social and traditional platforms
  • Experience developing and implementing annual communication plans
  • Proficient understanding of social and digital analytics and ability to integrate analytics into goal-setting and decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to deploy both technical and emotional writing styles; ability to assimilate public policy developments into short- and long-form content as well as craft content that creates strong emotional connections
  • Developed interpersonal skills; ability to develop and maintain relationships and partnerships
  • Accomplished skills in proofreading and editing
  • Knowledge of databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Standard office environment with regular computer and telephone use
  • Occasional standing, lifting, moving, and/or carrying materials and equipment in excess of 25 lbs
