Principal Chemical Engineer - Spectra Armor Business (Finance)



This position is intended to convey to the new, independent company, to be named Solstice Advanced Materials when the separation occurs. This is expected to occur in late 2025 or early 2026.

The Principal Chemical Engineer provides technical expertise to ensure the operation produces product that meets all quality, cost, and efficiency requirements to a 24/7 manufacturing facility. You will contribute to the development of Honeywell's next generation of Spectra products by designing, testing and/or validating products from prototype to market. This role will identify ways to improve safety, quality, yields, and the capability of existing processes while also assisting in the scale up and implementation of developmental products/processes. Core challenges include leading continuous process improvement to drive Key Performance Indicators for the 24/7 plant operation, to meet goals established by the business along with providing technical guidance and support to the operations team while assisting and leading process troubleshooting activities to yield desired output.As a Principal Chemical Engineer at Honeywell, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership, expertise, and guidance in the design, development, and implementation of chemical processes and solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive product development and improvement, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of diverse, relevant plant-floor work experience within manufacturing environment

  • Process Simulation software experience (ASPEN, HTRI, PIPE-FLO) for process equipment design
  • Excellent computer literacy (Minitab, Coding, Logic, MS Excel, DCS, Automation/Controls Tools, etc)
  • Certification in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing preferred
  • Working knowledge of RAGAGEP / PSM / MOC
  • Working in a union environment
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead business critical projects yielding significant reductions in defects/costs and increased productivity
  • Lead production restoration when attempts by the operations personnel have been unsuccessful, advanced troubleshooting or shift coverage are required to stabilize operation
  • Must work multiple priorities and deliver required results by autonomy within a 24/7 operation
  • Able to quickly reprioritize to support emergent issues in the plant and provide field support to resolve threats impacting site operation
  • Mentor site engineers as a on-the-plant floor partner to develop and implement innovative engineering solutions to improve OEE and stable ops while reducing process variability and waste
  • Plan & innovate layout of production processes and sequence of operations with next-gen mindset
  • Support 24/7 operations in troubleshooting daily process issues as needed
  • Support sustained operation of fiber, solvent recovery and utilities operations
  • Conduct PHAs, engineering analysis, SOP/compliance audits, measurements, and tests/trials
  • Develop chemical process controls, engineering documents, and capital improvement plans
  • Develop Pre-Feed/FEL-1 process packages for capital projects and manage those from design to operation, including detailed process and equipment design to meet calculated attainment and develop robust commissioning plans for validation
  • Facilitate and manage engineering MOR processes (MOC, PSM, Project, Task Mgmt, etc) as directed
  • Serve as site engineering POC and technical liaison for all unit operations
  • Provide technical review and approval of all MOC projects related to production or utility processes
  • Perform detailed root cause analysis using advance concepts, tools, and technology to implement process changes/control plans which ensure continuous and sustainable improvement
  • Coordinate with 3rd party vendors to manage improvement opportunities for plant operations and drive opportunities to improve energy efficiency, productivity, and equipment operation/reliability.
