The Scott Family Amazeum is a hands-on, interactive museum in Northwest Arkansas that creates a fun environment where risk taking, imagining, problem solving, discovery, collaboration, and exploration bring children and adults together to learn and grow. Through experiences with the Amazeum, individuals and the community are engaged in building relationships and developing identities as creative, curious, and innovative shapers for the region. Hands-on learning opportunities and inquiry-based discovery allow guests to exercise critical thinking and take risks in the context of play. The Amazeum facility includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor space and one acre of outdoor exhibition and activity space. The exhibits and programs are multidisciplinary based on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) concepts to further formal educational goals in a high-quality informal learning environment. The museum is located at the intersection of Museum Way and J Street in Bentonville, AR.

Job Description

The Project Manager for the Exhibits Department will collaboratively lead the Amazeums Creative Studio team in planning, development and co-creation of a variety of small- and large-scale interactive exhibits and immersive experiences. This position is multi-faceted and includes but is not limited to managing the coordination, schedule, budget, client and vendor relationships, and subcontracts for concurrent projects, and producing reports and updates for stakeholders. As the Project Manager you will manage project processes through all phases of design, fabrication, and installation. Projects will be focused on indoor and outdoor experiences, interdepartmental projects, and external client-based work.

Essential functions

The Project Manager will:

  • Maintain collaborative relationships with internal team and external clients
  • Manage project schedules, and budgets
  • Research and develop relationships with vendors and subcontractors
  • Coordinate project resources, equipment and materials
  • Research, brainstorm and engage team members in exploring solutions to project obstacles
  • Create exhibit manuals and write project reports
  • Provide written updates and other communication to stakeholders

Competencies

  • Understanding and experience with complex electronic, multimedia, and mechanical systems and with fabrication methods appropriate to interactive museum experiences
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and project management skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to analyze complex systems and synthesize information to identify risks and resolve problems
  • Organized and detail-oriented 
  • Ability to manage concurrent projects and multiple deadlines

Supervisory responsibilities

Direct supervision of the Resource Coordinator

Physical demands

  • Requires standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching
  • Handling materials, pulling, carrying and pushing
  • Occasional lifting of various materials and equipment to a maximum of 75 pounds

Travel required

  • Some activities may require travel and transportation of materials by personal vehicle.

Required education and experience

  • At least 5 years work experience managing complex creative physical projects
  • Fluency in Microsoft suite (Office, Word, Excel)
  • Strong working knowledge of Google suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive)
  • Experienced with project management software (e.g., Basecamp, Trello)
  • Experience with complex electronic, multimedia, and mechanical systems and with fabrication methods appropriate to interactive museum experiences

Preferred education and experience

  • Experience in exhibit design incorporating interactive elements
  • Fluency in Adobe creative suite
  • Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., Inkscape, Sketchup, Fusion360)

  • Must be able to provide proper documentation for Employment Eligibility Verification on first day of employment
